Falling asleep felt impossible for me. Cold showers, herbal teas and even switching off my fridge light before midnight snacks did nothing. By sunrise I was dragging through another day of late-night projects, emails and work sessions with foggy eyes and no fresh ideas.
I hunted online for blue-light glasses in India and hit a wall. The only options were:
• Fully clear lenses that did almost nothing (“blue-light blocker” in name only)
• Imported brands charging ₹2,000 plus yet still transparent
Soon I realized my real problem wasn’t just tired eyes. I’d lie in bed staring at the walls, flipping my pillow every 30 minutes, unable to switch off my brain. That’s when I learned how blue light disrupts our circadian rhythm and keeps us wired long after dark.
I tried my own fixes: I stopped using screens after 8:30 PM, avoided bright LEDs, and switched off the fridge light. But I could not block light from uncontrollable sources such as overhead bulbs, gym fluorescents, streetlights flooding my window, glowing signboards, or car dashboards at night. The glare still drained my focus and prolonged my bedtime
So I decided to make and sell my own tinted glasses without charging ₹2,000 for clear frames that don’t work. I sourced amber-tint samples, tested each pair through late-night build marathons, then set up our branding—logo, case and packaging—to feel premium yet stay affordable.
When I wore those first functional samples during a build that ran past 1 AM, I finally slept soundly for the first time in years. I woke up alert with fresh ideas and real energy.
Two lessons stuck with me:
• Tint matters. A true amber or gold lens can block up to 90-95 percent of high-energy blue light, far more than any clear lens.
• Price matters. To work for people in India, these had to cost under ₹1,000 rather than ₹2,000 plus.
I finalized everything and launched DNA Holistic with four frame colours—Simple Gray, Cold Brown, Bright Black and Sand Black. Friends and a few wellness influencers who tried them said they fell asleep faster, slept deeper and woke up truly refreshed.
An unexpected bonus was night-drive comfort. I don’t drive much myself yet, but wellness influencers, doctors and my co-founder Habeeb all say the reduced headlight glare makes long drives far easier.
Here’s what these tinted lenses unlocked for me:
• Undistracted focus, without worrying about eye strain or my sleep suffering
• Speedy sleep — my time to fall asleep dropped from about 45 minutes to just 15 minutes
• Fresher mornings, since I no longer wake up in a fog most days
Quality sleep is the cornerstone of creativity, productivity and well-being. Blue light from screens and harsh ambient lighting like street lamps, gym fluorescents and glowing signboards—affects everyone. It is more than a minor irritation. It can quietly undermine your focus and sap your energy.
If you have ever struggled with screen glare, bright environmental lighting, late-night brain fog or sluggish mornings, give these amber-tint lenses a try. Your eyes and your next great idea will thank you.
